Trails Committee meetings are usually the first Weds. of the month, 5:30 pm, Room 303, City Hall, immediately followed by the Conservation Commission meeting at 7:00 pm.  Work parties are usually the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month at 8:30 am, and are still held if it is raining lightly.  To be notified of upcoming workparty events, please send me an email.

Wednesday Night Rambles
The Shelton Trails Committee invites you to join us for a series of guided hikes to enjoy and explore Shelton’s Trails and Open Spaces.  The free hikes will be on the Third Wednesday of the Month through October after work.  The easy to moderate walks that take about an hour while we explore Shelton’s greenways and natural beauty. Afterwards we’ll head out for refreshments.

August 20th
, 2008 @ 6:00;  Turkey Trot Trail – the trail contains dams, bridges, a new canoe launch, overlooks of Silent Waters, and  neighborhood access trails.  The trail is also designed as a 3K cross country trail for those seeking new running locations.  Meet on North Constitution Blvd. at the sign kiosk opposite the High School drive.

September 17th, 2008 @ 5:30; Far Mill Trail – this is a NEW TRAIL on the west side of town through beautiful woods with a nice overview of Boehm Pond.  Meet opposite #98 Far Mill Street .

October 15th, 2008 @ 5:30;  Shelton Lakes Recreation Path at Lane St. - enjoy some of the prettiest areas in Shelton along our new gravel sections of the RecPath.  There are meadows, woods, floodplain, a boardwalk, and neighborhood access areas.  A flashlight is recommended.  Meet at Huntington St. Café at 90 Huntington St. (in Huntington Center across from the Fire House.  Teresa adds:  Bring a flashlight???

Visit the Shelton Trails website at www.sheltontrails.org for information and maps.  Come a little early so we can start promptly and be done by about 7:15.  Kids and dogs on leashes are welcome.  You may also call Terrance Gallagher at 926-9572 if there are questions.  Trails volunteers will retire to a local  restaurant or tavern afterwards and the public is welcome to join us.  Shelton has about 15 miles of hiking trails that are built and maintained by volunteers, and new friends are always welcome.  E-mail the Shelton Trails website if you would like to help – all levels of effort are appreciated & encouraged.

 * Raindates for workparties will happen only if there is heavy rain or thunderstorms on the day of the work party.  The core group of trail volunteers do tend to work in light showers and prefer to keep to the schedule if at all possible due to busy schedules.  If a raindate is being called, it will be published on this website as soon as I hear about it.   I will also send out an email to those people who have asked to be on the work party email list.

**Raindates for guided hikes may happen even if rain or thunderstorms are simply threatening.  In such cases, we sometimes hold two hikes:  One on the originally scheduled date, and then one on the raindate so that people not wanting to hike in threatening weather can still enjoy the hike.  Raindate hikes will be announced on this page as soon as possible.   It has been my experience, however, that some of the best hikes are during "moody" weather when there is perhaps fog and a passing shower - so don't rule out a hike just because it's a little damp outside.
